Daiki Tomii’s heroics in Bellmare goal win him Konami Monthly MVP for October

Daiki Tomii has been named Konami Monthly MVP, a deserved honor for the Shonan Bellmare goalkeeper, whose fabulous play in goal helped his club to an undefeated month that was critical in their bid to achieve safety.

October was an abbreviated month in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, with only two matchweeks, but Tomii still made a huge impact. First he managed the goal for a clean sheet against Kyoto Sanga, which included a massive late save to preserve the 1-0 victory. He then made a slew of excellent saves, including on a 1v1 late, to hold league leaders Vissel Kobe to a 1-1 draw.

The only goal scored on Tomii for the month came on a penalty, as he erased all chances from open play, added great box control and even distributed the ball well. The goalkeeper’s excellence helped deliver four points to Bellmare, keeping them out of the drop zone headed into the season’s final stretch.

In J2, Konami Monthly MVP was awarded to Zento Uno. The teenage midfielder continued his tough tackling and distribution in October, but also added three goals as FC Machida Zelvia clinched the league title and promotion to J1. Watch out for the tantalizing Uno next season in the top flight.

Konami Monthly MVP in J3 went to Rei Yonezawa. The winger scored four goals to lead Kagoshima United to four wins from five matches in October as the club continued their push for promotion.
