Vissel, Urawa lead J1 Best Eleven with four selections apiece

Vissel Kobe and Urawa Reds led the way in the 2023 Meiji Yasuda J1 League Best Eleven with four players from each club included in the team.

The Vissel contingent was led by J1 Player of the Year Yuya Osako and his strike partner Yoshinori Muto, who had 10 goals and 10 assists for the league champs. Hotaru Yamaguchi, who manned the midfield marvelously for Kobe, was also named a Best Eleven selection, as well as fullback Gotoku Sakai, who was outstanding in defense throughout an unforgettable campaign.

Urawa had the best rearguard in the league so it is no surprise that they are well represented in the Best Eleven. Shusaku Nishikawa was selected as the goalkeeper for the team, with Alexander Scholz and Marius Hoibraten included in the backline. The Scandinavian duo were an impenetrable pairing in the center of the Urawa defense this season and Scholz also added seven goals as the Reds' primary penalty taker. The tireless Atsuki Ito, who added two goals and five assists, rounds out the group as the fourth Urawa Best Eleven selection.

Yokohama F·Marinos, Kawasaki Frontale, and Cerezo Osaka are also represented in the Best Eleven with one player apiece.

Marinos striker Anderson Lopes, who scored 22 goals to share Top Scorer honors with Osako, is included in the forward line, while Frontale midfielder Yasuto Wakizaka earned his third selection in a row after contributing nine goals and six assists.

Right back Seiya Maikuma rounds out the best Eleven selections after performing brilliantly all season long for the Sakura in both defense and attack.
