Yuya Osako, Anderson Lopes share Top Scorer after both score 22 goals

Yuya Osako and Anderson Lopes have won joint Top Scorer honors after the two strikers impressively netted 22 goals each to lead the 2023 Meiji Yasuda J1 League.

Osako and Anderson Lopes were in a tight race for Top Scorer all season long as they paced the league from the start. Both were spectacular, scoring in a variety of ways to lead their respective teams.

Osako’s scoring punch led Vissel Kobe to their very first league title, with his goal from near half-field in Matchweek 32 a pivotal moment in both the championship chase and Top Scorer race.

Meanwhile, while Yokohama F·Marinos were unable to successfully defend their title, Anderson Lopes's goals were a massive factor in their runner-up finish. With a goal on the final day of the season in Kyoto, the Brazilian leveled the race with Osako for Top Scorer and ensured honors would be shared.

This marks the second time in three years that the Top Scorer award has been jointly awarded, after Leandro Damião and Daizen Maeda scored 23 goals each in 2021.
