The Japan Under-23 national team earned its first win of the Toulon Tournament on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over the Guinea U23s, though it was not enough to send them through to the knockout round.
A third-minute goal by Yokohama F. Marinos striker Cayman Togashi was soon equalised by the opponents, but RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino delivered the game-winner in the 39th minutes from Sagan Tosu midfielder Daichi Kamada’s pass.
Japan will look to end their experience in Toulon on a positive note when they face England’s U22s on Friday in the last match of the group stage.
