J.League hereby announced that it has signed the “Sports for Climate Action Framework”. In February 2024, J.League released the “J.League Climate Action Roadmap”, which outlined a strategic approach to reducing the negative environmental impacts associated with match operations and business activities. By signing onto this framework and committing to a net-zero future, J.League aims to further accelerate its sustainability initiatives and contribute to the development of a more sustainable society through the power of sports.
About Sports for Climate Action Framework
This is a global initiative led by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Launched at COP24 in 2018, this Framework calls on the global sports community to take decisive climate action by adhering to five core principles:

- Undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility
- Reduce overall climate impact
- Educate for climate action
- Promote sustainable and responsible consumption
- Advocate for climate action through communication
In line with these principles, J.League is also committed to the following four key actions:
- Set an interim (2030) and long-term emissions reduction target: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
- Measure and report: Publicly disclose annual emissions data and progress toward emissions reduction.
- Plan for reaching net zero emissions: Submit a specific action plan within 12 months of joining the Framework.
- Disseminate commitments: Communicate and disseminate our climate actions and progress openly to all stakeholders.
These efforts align with J.League’s long-standing mission to create mission to create social impact through sport. Under J.LEAGUE 100 YEAR VISION, “Make Japan happier through sports,” we work with our 60 clubs nationwide to address key societal issues—including climate change, social inclusion, and regional revitalization—together with diverse local partners.
