Yuya Osako named Konami Monthly MVP for five-goal May

Yuya Osako has been named Konami Monthly MVP after a spectacular showing that saw him score five goals and add three assists in May.

The Vissel Kobe man started out the month right with a goal and assist in the Ushi’s 2-2 draw against a Nagoya Grampus team that features an outstanding defense. He then scored two goals in a win over Yokohama FC and picked up an assist as the Ushi beat Sanfrecce Hiroshima. A goal in a 1-1 draw with Kashiwa Reysol followed before he finished the month with a goal and assist in a 3-2 win over F.C.Tokyo.

Osako had a goal or assist in each of Vissel’s five May matches, helping the Ushi to an undefeated month that had them standing atop the Meiji Yasuda J1 League. It was an incredible series of matches for Osako, who ended May as the league’s top scorer and the clear cut top performer of the young season.

In J2, Konami Monthly MVP honors went to Tokushima Vortis’ Kaito Mori. The forward scored six times and had an assist in his team’s six May matches. Mori, on loan from Kashiwa Reysol, helped Vortis make a massive jump, going from bottom of the table all the way up to 16th place by the end of the month.

The Konami Monthly MVP in J3 was awarded to YSSC Yokohama’s Sho Fukuda, who scored three goals in three May matches as part of his club’s unbeaten month.
