Vissel Kobe on Monday announced that midfielder Jung Woo-young has been called up by South Korea for their upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old has five caps for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup runners’ up, who will host Laos next Thursday before facing Lebanon away.
“It’s an honour to be selected for the national team,” Jung commented. “But as Vissel’s captain I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to play in the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup quarter-final [against Kashiwa Reysol].
However, I believe that my team-mates will fight with all of their strength in my absence, and I trust in them and promise to play hard for my national team.”
