Vegalta announce local revival initiatives

Vegalta Sendai has announced a series of new projects meant to support the Tohoku area in commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake’s fifth anniversary.

Amongst the initiatives is a “football school caravan” that will see coaches and instructors dispatched to elementary and junior high schools throughout the region.

The club also announced pre-match concerts at all 17 home games that will be broadcast via local FM stations as well as a continuation of the Miyagi/Tohoku Dream Project which has invited thousands of children from disaster-affected areas to Yurtec Stadium.

Vegalta, who will start the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League season away at Yokohama F. Marinos, will host Kashima Antlers, another club deeply affected by the 2011 earthquake, on the weekend of the event’s fifth anniversary in a nationally televised game.
