Utaka wins Konami Monthly MVP after impressive April performances

Kyoto Sanga F.C. forward Peter Utaka has been named the Konami Monthly MVP for the month of April after scoring four goals that took him to the top of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League goalscoring chart.

Utaka notched his quartet of goals in three matches, finding the net in a 1-1 draw against Gamba Osaka, then scoring twice in a win over Sagan Tosu, before scoring again as Sanga toppled Kashiwa Reysol.

Arguably no player has been as crucial to his team this season as Utaka, whose ability to find space in the box and clinically finish has lifted Kyoto to mid-table stability in their J1 return.

In J2, Vegalta Sendai’s Ryoma Kida was named Konami Monthly MVP for April. Kida made a huge impact over the course of the month for Vegalta, with three goals and an assist to help the Sendai side to four wins in their five matches in April.

Top honors in J3 went to Matsumoto Yamaga’s Ayumu Yokoyama. The forward scored a brace in the team’s first match of the month before adding two more later in April as part of Matsumoto Yamaga's push for promotion back to the second tier.
