Urawa Reds have been on a roll, running off six straight matches without a loss to move all the way up to fourth in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League table. Now, they are putting that unbeaten streak on the line on Saturday at 7:30 pm JST when they welcome Kawasaki Frontale to Saitama Stadium 2002 in a match that will be streamed live on the J.League International YouTube channel.
The Reds’ good run of form has been paced by an excellent defense that has not given up a goal in their last three matches. The centerback pairing of Alexander Scholz and Marius Høibraten has been terrific, but despite their great play at the back, Urawa’s rise has been limited by a sputtering attack. Three of their last four matches have been scoreless draws and if they want to make an assault on the top of the table then they need to turn one point into three points.
Frontale are in good form of their own, beating Kashiwa Reysol and Sanfrecce Hiroshima in consecutive matches. They are beginning to show some life and climb back into the upper reaches of the league, where they have been for years. This isn’t the first time they have had a few good matches, though. It’s maintaining that form past two of three games that has been the difficulty, but a win over the Reds would be a big sign that they are finding the consistency they have been looking for.
The J.League announced that up to four matches will be streamed live each week for the 2023 season, bringing one of Asia’s top league’s to fans around the world. The streams will be free to view on the J.League International YouTube channel in any country that does not have an existing rights agreement.
