Urawa look to take hold of third place against Kashima

Urawa Reds started off the 2023 season by winning the AFC Champions League and they rode that momentum into the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, where they are trying to lock down their best domestic finish since 2016. That pursuit now takes them to Kashima Antlers on Saturday at 2 pm JST in a match that will be streamed live on the J.League International YouTube channel.

The Reds currently sit in third place, three clear of fourth and only four points back of second. It’s been a terrific season in Saitama, where their excellent defense has led them to so many good results, but they want to finish it right. That means at least holding onto third place, which would be their highest league finish since seven years ago when they finish second.

Kashima have no interest in rolling out the red carpet for Urawa, though. They are in the midst of a strong season themselves and while Antlers find themselves down in sixth place, they are only six points back of Urawa and could very well play their way into that top three with the spot in Asian competition that comes with it.

The J.League announced that up to four matches will be streamed live each week for the 2023 season, bringing one of Asia’s top league’s to fans around the world. The streams will be free to view on the J.League International YouTube channel in any country that does not have an existing rights agreement.
