The Japan Football Association on Thursday announced Shinzo Koroki as the third and final overage player selection for Japan’s 2016 Rio Olympics squad.
The Urawa Reds striker joins Sanfrecce Hiroshima centre-back Tsukasa Shiotani and Gamba Osaka left back Hiroki Fujiharu in the squad of 18, which will be announced on July 1.
“[Koroki] has great post play, can break through the opponent’s back line, and can also contribute to the counter-attack,” Japan U-23 coach Makoto Teguramori commented.
“He’s a player who will increase our attacking variety in Rio, and his flexibility will be effective against stronger opponents.
“He’s worked hard for Kashima Antlers and Urawa Reds, and now I hope he’ll shine for Japan at the Olympics and insert himself into the picture for Russia 2018.”
