Trinita, Vegalta and Yokohama FC all relegated, one drop spot still to be decided

Oita Trinita, Vegalta Sendai and Yokohama FC will all play next season in the MEIJI YASUDA J2 LEAGUE. The trio of teams all find themselves at least seven points adrift of safety with just two matches to play, confirming their relegation.

Trinita managed an impressive draw against Kashima Antlers over the weekend, but one point was not enough to keep their dreams of safety alive. Meanwhile, Vegalta and Yokohama both suffered losses, guaranteeing that they will drop into the second tier next season.

All three teams were plagued by leaky defenses this season, finishing 18th, 19th and 20th in goals allowed.

There is still one more relegation place to be decided. Tokushima Vortis currently occupy the remaining drop spot, sitting on 33 points. They won over the weekend, topping F.C.Tokyo, 2-0, but Shimizu S-Pulse and Shonan Bellmare also won to move to 36 points and a three-point advantage on Vortis.

That sets up next weekend’s clash between Vortis and Shonan as a potential relegation decider, heating up a furious end to the season.
