Tokyo to face Chonburi in ACL playoff

FC Tokyo have learned their opponents for the 2016 AFC Champions League Third Playoff, which will take place on February 9 at Tokyo Stadium.

The capital side will face Thailand’s Chonburi FC, who defeated Yangon United on Tuesday night by a 3-2 final score after extra time.

Chonburi last visited Japan in 2015, when they fell 3-2 to Kashiwa Reysol in a tense match that also required extra time. Their first and only appearance in the continental tournament’s group stage came in 2008, when they were grouped with eventual champions Gamba Osaka.

Tokyo, under manager Hiroshi Jofuku, are participating in the ACL for the first time since the 2012 edition when they reached the Round of 16.
