Tokyo striker Muriqui out for six weeks

FC Tokyo on Tuesday announced an untimely injury to Brazilian striker Muriqui, who will be out for over a month.

The 30-year-old suffered ligament damage to his right knee in the team’s J.League YBC Levain Cup quarter-final match against Avispa Fukuoka on August 31.

He is expected to require six weeks of recovery time.

Muriqui, who arrived this spring on loan from Al Sadd, has scored four goals this season for Tokyo.

His absence will see him miss the remainder of the capital side’s Levain Cup campaign as well as several key MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Second Stage matches.
