FC Tokyo on Friday announced the arrival of Brazilian striker Muriqui on a season-long loan from Qatar’s Al Sadd.
The 29-year-old is best known in Japan for his achievements in China, where he was a key figure in the rise of continental powers Guangzhou Evergrande.
In their 2013 AFC Champions League-winning season he was that tournament’s top scorer, Most Valuable Player and later named AFC Foreign Player of the Year.
“Ever since I faced Japanese teams in the ACL I’ve always wanted to play in Japan,” Muriqui said. “I’m happy to be joining FC Tokyo and I hope to contribute as much as I can toward achieving the club’s goals.”
Though limited by injuries since joining Al-Sadd, Muriqui still boasts 11 goals from 16 appearances in the current Qatar Stars League season.
