FC Tokyo on Thursday announced the likelihood that midfielder Takuji Yonemoto could have suffered another possible season-ending injury.
The 25-year-old suffered a snapped ligament in his right knee during the team’s 1-0 loss at Kawasaki Frontale on Saturday in the Tamagawa Clasico.
The former Japan call-up missed most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons due to similar injuries to his left knee.
It is a blow to new Tokyo manager Yoshiyuki Shinoda, who will be unable to count on Yonemoto’s services to lift the club out of 16th place in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Second Stage table.
