Tokyo draw, Gamba lose in ACL

The third match day of the 2016 AFC Champions League began on Tuesday night, with FC Tokyo and Gamba Osaka having mixed results against their Chinese opponents.

In Tokyo Stadium, Tokyo and Jiangsu Suning ended in a 0-0 draw. The visitors failed to create attacking momentum despite a lineup which included Brazil international Jo and former Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira.

Tokyo found a number of chances in the second half but were unable to find a goal and so remain in third place in Group E.

Gamba’s struggles continued with a 1-2 loss at Shanghai SIPG. Patric’s goal at the hour mark was not enough to overcome a brace by Elkeson, who scored in the 41st and 62nd minutes.

2008 champions Gamba are at the bottom of Group G with two points from three matches.
