FC Tokyo on Tuesday confirmed that winger Nathan Burns has been called up for Australia ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The AFC Asian Cup winners will host Bangladesh on September 3 before traveling to face Tajikistan on September 9, as they look to qualify for their fourth straight World Cup.
“I’m happy to have been selected for my national team,” Burns, who has 10 caps for the Socceroos, commented.
“The results of these matches are incredibly important so I want to give it my best.”
The 27-year-old joined Tokyo in July and has made an immediate impact, netting two goals in five appearances for the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League first stage runners’ up.
