Suzuki, Yamaguchi to be recognised for careers

The J.League’s board of directors on Wednesday agreed to honour former J.Leaguers Keita Suzuki and Satoshi Yamaguchi for their career achievements.

Suzuki, a midfielder who spent his entire 16-year career at Urawa Reds before retiring at the end of last season, played 536 matches for club and country and was named to the J.League Best XI in 2006 and 2007.

Yamaguchi, who between 1996 and 2015 played for JEF United Chiba (formerly JEF United Ichihara), Gamba Osaka and Kyoto Sanga, accumulated 758 total appearances, including 448 in the top flight and another 133 in the J2 League.

He was named to the league’s Best XI three times between 2006 and 2009.

The two players are expected to receive their medals at next month’s J.League Awards ceremony.
