Silva & Watari named Mastercard priceless japan Monthly MVPs

The J.League on Thursday announced the recipients of the 2017 MEIJI YASUDA J.League Mastercard priceless japan Monthly MVP award for February and March.

In the J1, Urawa Reds striker Rafael Silva was recognised for his league-leading five goals in four matches.

The winter arrival has invigorated the Reds’ attack, adding yet another threat to their packed roster.

“I’ve worked hard to adjust to the team since my first day with a goal of contributing to our results. I’m glad that I could score in front of our fans and want to thank everyone for your support,” Silva commented.

Meanwhile, the J2 League’s honours went to Tokushima Vortis striker Daiki Watari for his four goals which propelled the Shikoku side to third place at the end of the month.

Three of the 23-year-old’s strikes were game-winners as he led the league in shots on target amongst players with five shots or more.

“It’s an honour to be the season’s first Monthly MVP, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates,” Watari said.

“I think I’ve been able to demonstrate my skills with these goals, and I hope to continue doing so in the future.”

The winners were determined by a selection committee consisting of domestic media and several J.League officials.
