Shun Nagasawa named J1 MVP for August

Gamba Osaka striker Shun Nagasawa was named the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Monthly MVP for August after several strong midsummer performances.

Despite playing for just 130 minutes across four matches held last month, the 28-year-old scored four goals key goals in helping Gamba to rise to third place in the Second Stage title race.

His blistering volley against Shonan Bellmare, the first of his two goals in the team’s 2-1 comeback win in Round 10, was recognised with the league’s Best Goal Award for August.

“I was able to win this award by scoring goals that helped the team win, but that happened because of the support from those around me,” Nagasawa said.

“Both the team and I were in good form in August and I hope we can keep that up.

“We want to win the Second Stage and from then our goal is to make up for last year’s disappointment and win the MEIJI YASUDA J.League Championship.”
