S-Pulse triumph in thriller, Cerezo lose second straight

Shimizu S-Pulse were perhaps the day’s most dramatic winners after an exciting 25th round of the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League season.

Playing away at JEF United Chiba, the visitors found themselves reduced to 10 men after Naomi Kawaguchi’s red card and trailing 3-2.

But a 90th-minute own goal evened up the game, and Chong Tese’s 94th-minute stunner won the game for S-Pulse in the dying seconds of additional time.

Matsumoto Yamaga also left it late, with Hiroki Yamamoto’s 86th-minute goal the difference in a 1-0 win over V-Varen Nagasaki.

Cerezo Osaka lost their second game in a row, allowing goals to Tetsuya Kijima and Kenji Baba in a 2-1 loss at Kamatamare Sanuki.

In the final match of the round, Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo will take on FC Gifu, who recently parted with former manager Ruy Ramos, on Monday night at the Sapporo Dome.
