Shimizu S-Pulse on Monday confirmed that defender Dejan Jakovic will miss six weeks of action after tearing his left hamstring.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury last Wednesday during S-Pulse’s MEIJI YASUDA J1 League 2-1 loss against Shonan Bellmare, and had to be substituted after half an hour.
Jakovic, who has made 16 appearances for S-Pulse this season, represented Canada earlier in summer during the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
His absence will be a further blow to his club and new boss Kazuaki Tasaka as they battle for survival this term.
The side currently lie 14th in the second stage table after only managing to win one game since the league restart in July.
