Never before has the J.LEAGUE seen a team as dominant as Kawasaki Frontale in 2020. Their 83 points were the most-ever in the history of the league, so was the 18-point gap they put between them and the next-best team, and their 88 goals were the most any team has ever scored.
Kawasaki Frontale’s spectacular season earned a slew of their players individual awards, too.
Jung Sung-ryong, Miki Yamane, Jesiel, Shogo Taniguchi, Kyohei Noborizato, Akihiro Ienaga, Ao Tanaka, Hidemasa Morita and Kaoru Mitoma were all named to the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE Best XI, giving Kawasaki Frontale nine of the 11 spots on the team.
Kawasaki Frontale’s success is also Toru Oniki’s. The manager has been at the club since 2000, first as a player, then as coach, and now with three J.LEAGUE titles, a J.LEAGUE Cup and Japanese Super Cup to his name in his four years as the top boss, he is truly a legend.
