Renofa, S-Pulse claim first J2 wins

Renofa Yamaguchi won their first-ever second division match on Sunday in the second round of the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League.

Last season’s J3 League champions claimed a 1-0 victory at Giravanz Kitakyushu thanks to Kazuhito Kishida’s first half goal.

Shimizu S-Pulse also claimed full points for the first time in the J2 with a 3-0 win at V-Varen Nagasaki, with captain Genki Omae scoring twice.

Across the country in Mito, Cerezo Osaka won 1-0 at Mito Hollyhock as Yoichiro Kakitani found the back of the net in first-half stoppage time.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo also found joy on the road, romping to a 4-0 final at FC Gifu thanks in large part to Ken Tokura’s hat-trick.

But it’s Thespa Kusatsu Gunma who remain in first place with their 2-1 result against Zweigen Kanazawa, with all three goals coming in the first half.
