Urawa Reds roared to a 5-2 win over FC Seoul, scoring all five of their goals before the half-time whistle in Tuesday’s Group F encounter.
Yuki Muto opened the scoring and Mihailo Petrovic’s men never looked back, extending their advantage through Tadanari Lee, Takahiro Sekine and Tomoya Ugajin inside the first 20 minutes.
Their comfortable victory was complete when Yoshiaki Komai applied the final blow right before the break, as the Reds take control of Group F on six points.
Elsewhere, Yuma Suzuki’s penalty miss saw Kashima Antlers fall to a 2-1 defeat at Muangthong United in their AFC Champions League Group E encounter.
Theerathon Bunmathan opened the scoring for the Thai side with a delightful free-kick in the 12th minute, though that was cancelled out by Pedro Junior’s firing in from Leandro’s cross right after the break.
Suzuki then had the chance to put Antlers ahead in the 84th minute from the spot, though he contrived to miss his effort.
Muangthong took full advantage and Xisco netted the winner deep into stoppage time to send his team above Antlers into first in the group.
