Reds midfielder Suzuki to leave club

Urawa Reds midfielder Keita Suzuki on Tuesday announced that he will leave the club at the end of the 2015 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League season.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire career at Urawa since joining in 2000, contributing to their 2006 J1 League and 2007 AFC Champions League titles.

“I’ve received offers from other clubs but I want to take some time to decide whether or not I’ll continue to play,” Suzuki wrote on Facebook, citing concerns about his condition.

“What’s more important is becoming champions this season, which my team-mates and I are focused on. Let’s fight together to enjoy the moment of victory!”

The veteran, who has made over 300 appearances in all competitions for the Saitama outfit, had his contributions seriously curtailed for the first stage winners this season.

His last appearance for Mihailo Petrovic’s side had come in a 2-1 home loss to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in July.
