Reds, Frontale, Sagan triumph over rivals


The MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Second Stage Round 5 too place on Saturday night, with only one out of nine exciting matches concluding in a draw.

Overall leaders Kawasaki Frontale triumphed over FC Tokyo in the second Tamagawa Clasico of the year, winning 1-0 thanks to a late headed goal by Yu Kobayashi.

In Saitama Stadium, Kashima Antlers and Urawa Reds traded goals in quick succession, with Shoma Doi drawing first blood at the hour mark and Tadanari Lee responding just two minutes later with a goal of his own. 

It was Lee again in the 73rd minute for the game-winner, completing the comeback for the Reds who trail Frontale on goal difference for the Second Stage lead.

At Level 5 Stadium, a scoreless first half made way for a second half shootout as Sagan Tosu won 3-2 over their Kyushu Derby rivals. 

Daichi Kamada, Masato Fujita and Takemitsu Tomiyama scored for the visitors, while Avispa found their way onto the scoreboard through an own goal as well as a late consolation effort by Yuki Saneto.

Back east, Cristiano’s hat trick saw Kashiwa Reysol defeat Gamba Osaka 3-2 in an exciting Kashiwa Stadium encounter. 

The Brazilian now has 11 goals this season, four being current leader Peter Utaka who notched his 15th for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in their 2-0 win over Vissel Kobe.
