Reds & FC Tokyo lose at home

The MEIJI YASUDA J1 League’s 15th round concluded on Sunday with two high-profile matches in the Kanto area.

Urawa Reds felt confident after captain Abe Yuki’s second goal of the night gave them a 2-1 lead over visiting Jubilo Iwata in the 56th minute, cancelling out Kentaro Oi’s opener.

But several errors by Reds goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa allowed Jubilo back into the match, with Adailton scoring a 68th-minute equaliser and Takuya Matsuura following up with a brace of his own to give Hiroshi Nanami’s men a 4-2 win at Saitama Stadium.

Meanwhile, FC Tokyo and Yokohama F. Marinos seemed content to slug out a 0-0 draw until Jun Amano’s right foot provided the winner in the 88th minute.

Following Wednesday’s Emperor’s Cup action, the next J1 round will take place on Sunday, June 25.
