The J.League has determined as follows regarding promotion and relegation rules at the end of the 2021 season. Other competitions formats will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

[Promotion and relegation rules after the end of the 2021 season]
- Number of promoted and relegated clubs (as decided and announced on Nov. 17)
   -   Promotion from J2 to J1, and J3 to J2: 2 clubs
   -   Relegation from J1 to J2, and J2 to J3: 4 clubs

- Regulation regarding the two promoted clubs
   -   Promotion from J2 to J1 shall be automatic for the top two clubs in the league.
   -   Promotion from J3 to J2 shall be automatic for the top two clubs in the league.

※ Clubs that have not received a J.League club license can not be promoted, and will not be replaced by third or lower place club.
