Oiwa to remain in charge of Antlers

Kashima Antlers have announced that current manager Go Oiwa will oversee the veteran side in 2018.

The first-year manager led Antlers to a second-place finish in the 2017 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League campaign.

Oiwa took charge of the team from Masatada Ishii midway through the season and won 12 of his 14 matches in charge since May.

However, his draw on the final day of the season against Jubilo Iwata proved decisive allowing Kawasaki Frontale to claim the title on goal difference though Antlers have now continued to support the 45-year-old’s work.

“Our disappointment in ending the season without a title cannot be put into words,” Oiwa commented. “We were able to play in front of a terrific, unified atmosphere at home this season thanks to your wonderful support.

“Next season I want us to do it again and take points from each match in order to win a title. Thank you for your continued support.”
