J.LEAGUE has announced that the number of clubs to be promoted and relegated at the end of the 2021 season.  More details on the format of the tournaments will be announced as soon as  determined.

Number of promoted clubs
- Promotion from J2 LEAGUE to J1 LEAGUE: 2 clubs
- Promotion from J3 LEAGUE to J2 LEAGUE: 2 clubs
The number of clubs promoted may vary if some of the clubs have not earned the required J.LEAGUE club license.

Number of relegated clubs
- Relegation from J1 LEAGUE to J2 LEAGUE: 4 clubs
- Relegation from J2 LEAGUE to J3 LEAGUE: 4 clubs
The number of clubs relegated also may change according to changes in the number of promoted clubs.
