Nagoya star Soma heads to Portugal to join Casa Pia

Yuki Soma has parlayed his terrific play for Nagoya Grampus and inclusion in Japan's squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup into a move to Casa Pia in the Portuguese top flight. The winger is joining Casa Pia on loan in hopes of helping the club qualify for continental competition.

Soma debuted with Nagoya in 2018 and spent part of the following season on loan at Kashima Antlers before returning to Grampus. He developed into one of the standout players in the league, utilizing his pace and guile to cause havoc down the wing.

Soma’s excellent play with Grampus earned him a place with the national team and he made the Japan side for the World Cup, where his quality was on display for the globe.

Casa Pia are newly promoted to the Portuguese first division, but they are up to fifth place, which is the final position that qualifies for UEFA continental competition. Now they add Soma, hoping that the danger he can bring to their attack can help them secure a spot in the top club tournaments in the world.
