Kawasaki star Mitoma transferred to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion

Kawasaki Frontale have confirmed the transfer of Kaoru Mitoma to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

The 24-year-old winger makes the move to England after a J.League career that includes 28 goals in 62 senior appearances for Kawasaki, who he joined at the academy level and ultimately helped to the 2020 MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE title.

Mitoma also scored the winning goal in the 2020 Emperor's Cup Final and recorded a brace in his club's 2021 FUJI XEROX SUPER CUP victory.

Despite being in his mid-20s, the Kawasaki star's rise in Japan has been meteoric, named to the J.League Best XI last season in his first full professional campaign after a stint at the university level.

Mitoma has been likewise dominant in 2021, featuring at the heart of an undefeated Kawasaki side and notching eight goals across the team's first 20 league matches.

While he leaves after only a season and a half, Mitoma's impact in J.League is undeniable, establishing himself as one of the most talented homegrown superstars to venture to Europe in recent memory.

Following his departure from Frontale, Brighton have announced Mitoma will spend the current season on loan with Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
