Matsumoto draw even with Consadole as J2 race heats up

With just two rounds remaining in the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League season, anything could happen on both ends of the table as both players and fans prepare for a wild finish.

Consadole Sapporo fell 2-1 at Tokushima Vortis, taking the lead through Julinho’s goal in the 33rd minute but allowing an equaliser to Daiki Watari on the cusp of half time.

Vortis striker Ryogo Yamasaki scored the winner 10 minutes into the second half to hand the leaders their third defeat in four matches.

Consadole now stand even on points but ahead slightly on goal distance to Matsumoto Yamaga, who won 2-0 at home to Tokyo Verdy.

The two clubs in the automatic promotion spots sit just three points ahead of surging Shimizu S-Pulse who narrowly escaped Pikara Stadium with a 2-1 win at Kamatamare Sanuki.

With a 2-1 win at Roasso Kumamoto, Kyoto Sanga clinched their spot in the 2016 J1 Promotion Playoff as they are guaranteed to finish sixth or higher.

Fourth-placed Cerezo Osaka won 1-0 over Ehime FC thanks to a second half goal by Kenyu Sugimoto.

Leo Mineiro’s brace lifted FC Gifu three points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win against Yokohama FC.

Zweigen Kanazawa dropped to last place with their 2-1 home loss to JEF United Chiba and trail Giravanz Kitakyushu, who fell 3-1 to Machida Zelvia, on goal difference.
