Sunday night’s Emperor’s Cup second round match between Yokohama F. Marinos and MIO Biwako Shiga had to be abandoned with the score locked at 1-1.
The decision by the officials, made in deference to the safety of the players, came after 70 minutes as a result of heavy rains creating an unplayable surface at Mitsuzawa Stadium.
A decision regarding a replay will be made by the Japan Football Association soon.
In Sunday’s other matches, Vegalta Sendai defeated Sendai University 3-2, while Omiya Ardija won 3-1 against Tokyo Verdy.
Meanwhile, JEF United Chiba snuck past FC Gifu 1-0, while Kyoto Sanga cruised to a 4-0 victory over Ryutsu Keizai University.
The remaining six matches of Round 2 will be played this Wednesday.
