Yokohama F·Marinos had their 13-match unbeaten streak snapped last matchweek, and they knew they needed to bounce back with a victory to keep the pressure on Kawasaki Frontale in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE title race. An early goal by Douglas Vieira put Sanfrecce Hiroshima in front, though, and put the pressure on Marinos to respond.
The Yokohama side handled the pressure just fine, and responded brilliantly. First, a Daizen Maeda shot was deflected into the net for a 36th-minute equalizer, then Yuki Saneto hit a brilliant no-look volley from a corner kick in first-half stoppage time to send Marinos into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The other 45 featured the red-hot play of reigning Konami Monthly MVP Léo Ceará, who blasted a 25-yard free kick into the upper corner for a stunning goal to wrap up the Marinos victory.
With the win, the title challengers jumped right back onto the heels of Frontale for the top spot in the table, now just one point back of the defending champions, although Frontale do have a match in hand.
