The four participants in the J1 promotion play-offs have been determined following Monday’s final MEIJI YASUDA J2 League matchday.
Despite a 4-1 win over FC Gifu, Avispa Fukuoka finished in third place after falling behind on goal difference to Jubilo Iwata, who earned the second and final automatic promotion spot.
Meanwhile, Cerezo Osaka defended their fourth-place finish with a 2-0 win over play-off contenders Tokyo Verdy.
Ehime FC finished fifth despite a 3-0 loss to Tokushima Vortis, while V Varen Nagasaki managed to hold on to sixth place following a 2-1 defeat to regional rivals Giravanz Kitakyushu.
Verdy and JEF United Chiba, who were in contention for sixth place, finished in eighth and ninth respectively.
The semi-finals will take place on November 29, with the third and final promotion spot to be determined on December 6 at Yanmar Stadium in Osaka.
