Kashiwa score an astonishing three stoppage-time goals to climb out of relegation zone

It’s been a difficult first half of the season for Kashiwa Reysol, who have been in a relegation fight from the very first matchweek. But they climbed out of the drop zone this weekend, and they did it in stunning fashion.

Reysol entered the game winless in their last eight matches, and playing away to Shonan Bellmare, they trailed 2-1 heading into the 90th minute. It looked like they were bound for another loss, but stoppage time brought out a Kashiwa comeback for the ages.

Three minutes into added time, Takuma Ominami won a race to a ball right in front of goal to bang in an equalizer. At 90+9’, a header off a long ball found Cristiano free down the left and he hit a brilliant shot just inside the near post, beating Shonan goalkeeper Kosei Tani for the go-ahead goal from a near-impossible angle. Finally, Pedro Raúl scored his second of the game for Reysol’s third goal of stoppage time to win, 4-2.

From bound for a loss, to a monstrous stoppage-time victory and three points to get out of the relegation zone, Reysol stunned everyone at Lemon Gas Stadium Hiratsuka—and probably their own fans, too. An unbelievable finish to an important matchday and perhaps a catalyst for a Reysol run far beyond the relegation zone this season.
