Kaneko scores 20,000th goal for S-Pulse in draw

Shimizu S-Pulse striker Shota Kaneko scored the J1 League’s 20,000th goal on Friday night, nearly 24 years after the league’s first-ever match.

The 21-year-old bundled in captain Chong Tese’s cross from an unmarked position on the far post in the 14th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at Kawasaki Frontale.

While Hiroyuki Abe and Kengo Nakamura combined to give Frontale a 2-1 lead in the second half, a late Tiago Alves stunner saw the match end in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Gamba Osaka breezed to a 6-0 win over Omiya Ardija at Suita Stadium. Rising star Yosuke Ideguchi scored the opening goal after just 16 minutes, followed later in the match by goals from Jin Izumisawa, Shu Kurata and Genta Miura as well as a brace by 18-year-old Ritsu Doan.
