Jan Anders Jonsson lost on his MEIJI YASUDA J1 League managerial debut, as Sanfrecce Hiroshima surrendered 1-0 at home to Sagan Tosu on Sunday.
The Swede replaced Hajime Moriyasu and hoped to turn around the club’s form in front of their fans after the league restart.
However, despite fielding Patric in attack from the start, Sanfrecce were unable to find the breakthrough against Sagan and fell to Cho Dong-geon’s winner in the 75th minute.
It is a result that leaves the relegation-threatened 2015 Japanese champions only two points off last place, as bottom dwellers Albirex Niigata held FC Tokyo to a 1-1 draw.
Thiago Galhardo got the visitors off to a good start at Ajinomoto Stadium with a 12th-minute opener but Peter Utaka fired Tokyo level in the second half.
Kashiwa Reysol were similarly denied victory at Vegalta Sendai, as Yoshihiro Nakano’s last-gasp equaliser secured a 1-1 draw at Yurtec Stadium.
