Cerezo Osaka 6, Oita Trinita 1
Cerezo’s spectacular cup form continued with Trinita in town. Not only did they cruise to victory, they did so with six different goalscorers as they improved to three wins from three matches in the group stage and opened up a five-point lead atop Group A.
Kashima Antlers 4, Gamba Osaka 1
Gamba scored four minutes in and kept that lead into the second half, but Kashima stormed back late to pick up a crucial victory. Goals by Kenta Misao, Yuma Suzuki, Ikuma Sekigawa and Itsuki Someno came after the 50th minute and pushed Kashima into second place with four points from three matches.
Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1, Shimizu S-Pulse 2
First half goals by Benjamin Kololli and Teruki Hara were enough to hold off Sanfrecce, who scored in the second half, but could not complete the comeback. Sanfrecce are still top of Group B, but S-Pulse now sit second after winning in Hiroshima.
Nagoya Grampus 2, Tokushima Vortis 0
Two goals in three minutes did the job for Nagoya, who left it late to get their first win of the competition. Noriyoshi Sakai found the back of the net in the 72nd minute then Yoichiro Kakitani added one of his own in the 75th minute to put Nagoya in third place in Group B on four points. Vortis are bottom of the group with one point.
Kashiwa Reysol 1, Sagan Tosu 1
Masaya Tashiro scored in the 62nd minute to put the visitors in front, but Yugo Masukake equalized in the 88th minute to earn Reysol a draw. Both teams now sit on two points from three matches, trailing Consa and Sanga in Group C.
F.C.Tokyo 2, Shonan Bellmare 1
F.C.Tokyo’s quick start was enough to deliver victory. Shuto Abe scored first then Hirotaka Mita doubled the home side’s lead, keeping Shonan at bay to hold second place in Group D. Shonan still lead the group.
Júbilo Iwata 1, Avispa Fukuoka 0
Shota Kaneko’s goal was the decider as he found the net shortly after halftime to deliver Júbilo a critical victory. Júbilo are third in Group D, but level on points with second place F.C.Tokyo at the halfway mark of the group stage, while Avispa are at the bottom.
