J.League statement on J1 promotion play-off venue selection

In response to inquiries, the J.League has issued a statement explaining its decision to hold the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League promotion play-off final at Yanmar Stadium Nagai.

In the fall of 2014, the J.League began looking for a venue to replace the National Stadium, which is currently being rebuilt.

Stadiums from across the country fulfilling certain requirements, including being able to host a capacity of over 20,000, expressed interest.

From these options, the league evaluated shortlisted venues based on the condition they were not also in consideration for the J.League Championship.

The stadium also had to host matches on the same day as the MEIJI YASUYDA J2/J3 promotion/relegation play-off, while details such as accessibility, location and weather conditions were also considered.

As a result, the board of directors and executive committee decided on Yanmar Stadium Nagai at their meeting in March 2015.

The J1 promotion play-off final will feature Avispa Fukuoka and Cerezo Osaka.

The J.League hopes that fans will attend this crucial match which will determine the third and final promotion spot to the top-flight next season.
