J.League announces donation to Chapecoense

The J.League on Tuesday approved a donation to Brazilian club Chapecoense in the wake of the November 2016 air disaster which killed many of the club’s players and staff.

The league will donate one million yen in addition to the 238,778 yen contributed by fans at the FUJI XEROX SUPER CUP 2017.

The funds will be presented to Chapecoense officials when the team arrives in Japan this August for the Suruga Bank Championship.

Additionally, J.League chairman Mitsuru Murai will bring a collection of messages contributed by fans and supporters to Chapecoense when he visits the club later this month.
