JFA include Usami and Muto in preliminary East Asian Cup squad

The Japan Football Association (JFA) on Friday announced the list of 50 players it is considering for Japan’s squad for the 2015 EAFF East Asian Cup.

All 50 hail from J.League clubs with the exception of FC Seoul midfielder Yojiro Takahagi, while half play for teams who finished in the top five of the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League’s first stage.

Gamba Osaka forward Takashi Usami, Kawasaki Frontale veteran Yoshito Okubo and Urawa Reds’ Yuki Muto could therefore form a potent attack for the Samurai Blue at the tournament.

The East Asian Cup will run from August 2 and 9 in Wuhan, China, with Japan kicking off their campaign against North Korea on the first day.

2013 winners Japan will then face South Korea on August 5, before wrapping up against hosts China on August 9.
