Japan U-23 fall to Brazil in Olympic tune-up

Japan’s Olympic team lost 2-0 to Brazil on Saturday (local time) in a tune-up friendly ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic tournament.

The tournament hosts dominated from the outset, with Gabriel Barbosa scoring in the 33rd minute after breaking through the Japanese defensive line.

Shortly before halftime, Marquinhos headed in Barcelona star Neymar’s corner kick to make it 2-0.

Japan began to build momentum in the second half after Takuma Asano and Ryota Oshima came on, but were unable to narrow the gap.

Makoto Teguramori’s side will open their group stage campaign on August 4 (August 5 in Japan) against Nigeria.
