FC Tokyo had confirmed left-back Kosuke Ota would miss Sunday’s clash against Gamba Osaka after tearing a muscle in his right thigh.
Friday’s announcement that the defender faces up to a month on the sidelines means he is also likely to miss Japan’s upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cambodia and Afghanistan.
The 28-year-old has been impressive for Tokyo in their climb to third place overall in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League, getting forward to score two goals and record nine assists in 21 appearances.
Ota arrived at the capital outfit from Shimizu S-Pulse in 2012 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances in all competitions for them.
