Shimizu S-Pulse striker Chong Tese has been awarded the MEIJI YASUDA J2 League Monthly MVP for November, becoming the first player to win the award three times in a given season.
The veteran recorded three goals and three assists in four matches last month, with his contributions key to S-Pulse’s second place finish and subsequent promotion to the J1 League.
“More than anything I’m happy that I can point to this award as evidence that I helped the team earn promotion,” Tese said in reaction to the honour.
“Every result comes as a result of a process. Just as promotion comes from the result of each game, one goal comes from the fans cheering on the defenders, who get the ball to the player further upfield, who sets up the perfect pass to the scorer. In some way, no goal is special (because they all come from that process).
“In November I saw a lot of improvement from our front line in their pressing, and I hope to continue to improve my abilities and repay them for their help.”
