J1 Matchweek 7 Recap: Antlers arise, Frontale and Marinos fall

Another Meiji Yasuda J1 League matchweek is in the books. Here's how the games went down...

Júbilo Iwata 1, Kawasaki Frontale 1

Kei Chinen scored in stoppage time to rescue a point for Frontale, but that was not enough to maintain their place atop the table as their dropped points opened the door for Kashima Antlers.

Avispa Fukuoka 0, Kashima Antlers 1

Frontale’s draw gave Kashima a chance to take over first place and they did just that, riding another goal from the magnificent Ayase Ueda to victory and the top spot in the table.

Cerezo Osaka 0, Kashiwa Reysol 1

Cerezo had scored 10 goals in their last two matches across all competitions, but Reysol’s excellent defense shut them down and an early goal from Mao Hosoya was enough to deliver a crucial three points as they kept pace in the title race.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2, Yokohama F·Marinos 0

Tsukasa Morishima scored a brace as Sanfrecce defended their home turf and kept Marinos from making their claim for first place.

F.C.Tokyo 3, Vissel Kobe 1

Adaílton, Masato Morishige and Diego Oliveira each scored within 13 minutes to bring F.C.Tokyo from behind and continue Vissel’s winless start to the season.

Sagan Tosu 5, Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 0

Yuki Kakita’s brace led a dominant Sagan, who turned in their best performance of the season in a terrific victory that put them into the top six of the table.

Urawa Reds 1, Shimizu S-Pulse 1

A 53rd minute red card to Atsuki Ito left Urawa to desperately try to hold onto their 1-0 lead, but Valdo scored to earn S-Pulse a valuable away point.

Nagoya Grampus 2, Shonan Bellmare 1

Bellmare are still in search of their first win after an 89th-minute red card to Hirokazu Ishihara handed Grampus a last-gasp penalty that Hiroyuki Abe converted to send all three points Nagoya’s way.

Kyoto Sanga 1, Gamba Osaka 1

Peter Utaka scored his fourth goal of the season, but Dawhan’s blistering volley was more than deserving of the equalizer as the two teams split points.
